I’ve seen a surprising amount of negative takes on this. Theres not a D man in the league I’d take over Charlie. McAvoy is a top 3 D man in the league

Plus the hit is 9.5. Way better than Karlsson's or Doughty's deals. McAvoy will only be 31 when it ends. Think about how cap hits are going rise on players such as Dahlin, Makar, Byram, Hughes and Fox during those 8 seasons.

Higher than I would have expected.

But he's a wee bit better than Subban who costs $9M
And I'll take Charlie over Hamilton who's also at 9M

I was hoping they could keep him around 8.5 like Heiskanen but a lot of defensemen got bloated contracts so its hard for them to really bargain besides asking for the discount other players have given. They also can't afford to lose him.

I am surprised he got more than Makar. I am not so sure that he is better than Makar.

If he stays healthy the deal will be fine. He is our workhorse.
